WHO WE ARE: Bank History, Business Focus & Philosophy
Colorado Capital Bank was formed by two visionary bankers who are well known and highly regarded in the banking industry. John Davis, CEO, and Fred Eller, Vice Chairman, both owned and operated successful banking organizations in other states before starting Colorado Capital Bank. Colorado Capital Bank (then known as BankWest) was founded in 1998 by Sandy Larsen, Vice Chair for the Parker & Stroh Ranch banks, and Pat Carroll, bank board member.
In 2003, Mr. Eller and Mr. Davis led an investor group that purchased a majority interest in BankWest and redirected the strategy of the bank from a retail banking orientation to a focus on privately-held businesses. At that time, the bank operated two locations – Castle Pines and Stroh Ranch - and had assets of $50 million.
In May of 2005, the bank’s name was changed from BankWest to Colorado Capital Bank to better reflect the purpose of the company.
From January of 2005 to the present, the bank expanded to eleven locations across the Front Range and Colorado to include Boulder, Castle Pines, Cherry Creek, Colorado Springs, the Denver Tech Center, Durango, Eagle Ranch, Edwards, Littleton, Parker and Stroh Ranch.
Each of our banking locations is directed and managed as a separate bank, having a bank location president, chairman, and board of directors.
Today, the bank has grown to an approximate asset size of $800 million and employs nearly 175 staff members.
Colorado Capital Bank’s expertise and reputation is built upon being a unique niche provider of business and wealth management financial services to our target client segments. We focus on privately-owned businesses, their owners, management and families. In addition, the bank also serves nonprofit organizations.
